MATTHEW NEENAN – Switch Phase, East Coast Premiere
BalletX Co-Artistic Director Matthew Neenan presented the World Premiere of Switch Phase at the Vail International Dance Festival in August 2012 with the BalletX company, and he returns home to Philadelphia this November for the work’s East Coast Premiere at Fall Series 2012. The New York Times praised Switch Phase for its “modern folk style,” calling the performance “appealing…powerfully bending…and especially refreshing.” Neenan has been recognized for his choreographic achievements with prestigious awards and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through Dance Advance, Choo San Goh Foundation, Jerome Robbins Foundation New Essential Works (NEW) Program, and others.

KATE WATSON-WALLACE – World Premiere
Kate Watson-Wallace is a Philadelphia-based choreographer and director, who co-founded the art collective, anonymous bodies in 2007. Watson-Wallace creates site-based performances that re-imagine our everyday spaces. Her notable works include HOUSE (a performance inside of an abandoned row home), CAR (which takes place inside of a moving vehicle), and STORE (a performance installation about American greed). Watson-Wallace has choreographed music videos for indie legends Animal Collective, Black Dice, Dead Skeletons, and Spaceship Aloha, and filmed versions of her choreography have appeared at Dance Theater Workshop, The National Building Museum, and The PDP Motion Pictures Series. She is the recipient of a Pew Fellowship in the Arts in Choreography, and has received awards and grants from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage through Dance Advance, The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and others. Watson-Wallace will have her BalletX debut at Fall Series 2012, where she will direct the company in a World Premiere.

MAURO ASTOLFI – World Premiere
Italian-based choreographer Mauro Astolfi has pioneered an original dance style and language that reflects his unique and constantly evolving interpretation of contemporary movement. After an extended residency in the United States ending in 1994, Astolfi returned to Rome to establish the Spellbound Contemporary Ballet. The company acts as a channel to express his personal view of today’s choreographic language and serves as an inspiration for many young and emerging choreographers. Spellbound, currently a leader in the international dance scene, combines Astolfi’s personal portfolio with the technical excellence of its dancers to create a high profile model that is strongly focused on producing the highest quality of productions. Astolfi’s works have appeared internationally in France, Serbia, Thailand, Spain, Austria, United States, Germany, and elsewhere. He joins BalletX for his company debut at Fall Series 2012, where he will direct a World Premiere.
