Fall 2009 Series
We are thrilled to open our third season as the resident dance company of The Wilma Theater with Fall Series 2009, and present three world premieres by three choreographers:
A former dancer with San Francisco Ballet, Alex Ketley is an award winning independent choreographer and founder of The Foundry contemporary dance company. Ketley's new piece, SILT, and explores how personal ideas about oneself can get lost in the sweep of life. SILT is set to a collage by Tar©JMB of the music by Chris Clark, Giovanni Pergolesi and Arvo Pärt.
Meredith Rainey brings his passion and talent back to BalletX, where he danced for two seasons. Rainey is a former soloist with Pennsylvania Ballet and has danced and choreographed on many stages in Philadelphia and beyond. His new work, They Break, is inspired by a Chris Armstrong painting of the ocean before the storm, called Summerhead, and is set to David Lang's World to Come, a contemporary cello score.
Matthew Neenan is a co-Founder and Artistic Director of BalletX and choreographer-in-residence at Pennsylvania Ballet. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, "Matthew Neenan doesn't just make his dancers look good, he makes them better." Neenan's Fall premiere, Last of the Year, is set to a classical score by Borodin, Vivaldi and Schubert, bringing out individuality of dancers.
